Hi. Today I’m reviewing Amnesia Moon by Jonathan Lethem. I can’t remove this by order of the library, and I’m not going to violate a library rule, God forbid, as a librarian and a person who loves libraries, I’m not going to do that, but I had to show you at least part of this cover, which is really quite something. I wish I could see the whole thing, but it is what it is, and I want to do right by the library here, so I’m not removing that band.
Jonathan Lethem. Amnesia Moon. Amnesia Moon is a very, very interesting novel and I really recommend it to people who enjoy satire, surreal satire, and just surreal in general because I became interested in this author because of his book Gun, with Occasional Music, which was absolutely fantastic, and I just love every bit of that book. This one is a little tougher, I think, to read for most people, but worth it, very much worth it. There is so much wonderful social commentary in this book.
You’ll find it if you’re looking for it. And it’s just funny, sad, so many things all wrapped up in one, but I like this quote, if I can read it: “Once again, Jonathan Lethem displays his particular gift for lifting the rock and finding something beautiful underneath.” I think that really does describe this book well, and I really enjoyed it, and Jonathan Lethem has just officially become one of my favorite writers. What can I say? I really love his style based on two books that I’ve read, but I’m very interested in reading more. So, to every indie author. I would say, if you can get somebody to feel that way about your work, then you’re doing your job. Now do you see why it’s important to really take this seriously and treat it as a business and treat your writing as a product and make it the best you possibly can?
Here I am launching into indie author stuff, but it’s what I do. I’m always thinking about how can I improve? How can I make the story even more, I don’t know, memorable. The characters more interesting, and screenwriting especially will do that to you. You’ll just start thinking about the characters all the time now that I do. It’s just constant. It’s like they’re always just there waiting to tell their story. Anyway, I’m rambling just a little bit because this book does a little bit of that, but it’s great. It’s great stuff. I highly recommend it. Amnesia Moon by Jonathan Lethem. Alrighty then. That’s it for now. Talk to you later.
