Hi! Today I’m doing a book review of A TWISTED FATE: MY LIFE WITH DYSTONIA by Brenda Currey Lewis, which I read on my Kobo. It’s my recommended reading of the week.

I’ve posted a video review of the book below.

Now, this is a really remarkable story. Dystonia, which is a condition that very few people really know about, is a movement disorder and it effects the author’s whole body in a way that basically contorts her into positions that would require a contortionist to do. And this is all the time, so she’s been dealing with this ever since she was a child.

And she talks about her journey into trying to find various cures or treatments, because there is no cure for dystonia. She checks out all these different treatments, including surgery
which doesn’t work—multiple surgeries, I might add.

And she’s fortunate to have parents who were very supportive and a family situation that was very supportive, because I just think it’s remarkable that a person dealing with this condition and knowing firsthand how frustrating it is to go through different treatment options and have them not work. The condition itself can be painful. It certainly tires a person out. I speak from experience here.

In any case, I just think the book is a remarkable story and that everyone should read it, because I want everyone to know about dystonia. And so this gets my recommendation—my highest recommendation as a book that should be read. A TWISTED FATE: MY LIFE WITH DYSTONIA by Brenda Currey Lewis.

Meet Debbi

Welcome to my writers' corner of the Internet. I'm a novelist, who also writes short stories and screenplays. I hope to share the benefit of my experiences as an indie author with dystonia since 2009. I also post a lot of book reviews, because I love to read and learn new things. I hope to share that knowledge with you.
