FYI: This was obviously recorded earlier than the date published here. Thank you!
Hey. Yes. Hi. I’m going to try to sit up straight here. Yeah. I am in the midst of reevaluating how I’m doing this month. It’s June, the middle of June. Pretty much. We’re getting to the middle of June. It’s the 10th, right? What day is it? Is this a weekday? I dunno.
Anyway, yeah. So yeah, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to, one, start putting more time toward repurposing my content, number one. Numb.er two, yeah, get better about organizing because boy, it’s tough to organize. Once you’ve let things go, you need to establish a system, and I’m in the process of doing that. And so far I’m doing okay, but I could do better
Yes. What else? Oh, networking. Gosh, technically I have been doing some, but it doesn’t feel like quite enough yet. So I’m also starting to pick and choose contests for screenwriters as early as possible. And I need to put more time into writing out pitches and writing query letters just for the practice. Because one of the realities of screenwriting is I need a plan for what I’m going to do with my career, and I need to take the actions necessary to meet the people who will make things possible, whatever the thing is that I’m trying to do.
So having said that, I have made some of the most astonishing discoveries this weekend in terms of career possibilities. But the bottom line is you have to ask yourself what’s going to make you happy? What are you happy doing? Because unless you’re happy doing it, there’s really no point is there? You may as well be working in an office doing something you hate and get paid for it if you’re going to be that way about it. You have to love it enough to get past the point—the dip, as Seth Godin would put it—where things go south at some point.
You got to wait for that thing to turn around for whatever that thing is that you’re using to work to gain traction. And it takes time. I think because our business relationships are based on trust more than anything, and trust is becoming an ever-diminishing quality. Unfortunately, the internet is not doing its job well. We are not connecting at the right level. I think we need to focus more on people than on algorithms and that there is pretty much the secret. The question is how do you scale that or how do you make that work for you?
Well, here I am just telling you, it’s hard. It’s hard work. Everything involves work. Whether that’s me sitting here talking about the work or doing the work, it’s all hard work because to do well at it, you have to care and to care, you have to feel some level of joy about it. It’s as simple as that. I think that’s all I have to say at this point. I think June is going okay. I think I can do much better and we’ll see how I feel about the end of June. Alright, then talk to you later. Be seeing you.
Whose side is he on? 🙂
