How to Focus on Your Goals

Hi everyone. Well, I’m gonna start talking more about screenwriting and what I’m doing along those lines. And one of the things I’m doing is I’ve signed up with a mentor. I have a mentor through Women in Film and Video, and we haven’t started yet, but we are working on having our first meeting, I guess. And one of the things that goes with this mentorship is that I’ve been getting assignments, so to speak, from Women in Film and Video. Things to watch, read, listen to. And there’s a really great video I just saw about focus, and it’s interesting because I thought, “Oh, I know this.” And it’s like, well, okay. Yeah, I know this. But then I really started to listen to it. And I thought, you know, something? This is well worth listening to. It’s well worth everybody listening to, so what I’m gonna do is include it in whatever blog post I put this in.

So anyway, part of the focus video said, make a list of things you don’t want to do anymore, because being able to focus on what’s really important means choosing what things you want to pay attention to, and really apply yourself to.

Okay, number one, I’m not paying for Amazon ads or Facebook ads, period.

Number two, I’m not gonna spend any more time or money on classes for things I already know. Now, this is a little dicey. Because sometimes you think you know something and you really don’t, or you can gain something from learning more about a thing you think you know, and I found this to be unfortunately very true. I mean, I will sit there listening to somebody talk about the Hero’s Journey in their own way and think, “Okay, I know this,” but then something will come out of it. Some new insight. So it drives me a little crazy thinking about it. But at the same time, I have to balance my time with that against time with actually doing. And I think a lot of learning takes place in the doing. So just think about that anyway. Um, I’m not … let’s see …

Oh yeah. I’m not going to narrate my own books. I’m not an actor.

Number four, I’m not going to waste time talking about self-publishing when the subject is discussed everywhere. Hmm. Except I will talk about self-publishing in unconventional ways. Let’s put it that way. That’s a kind of a, you know, it’s not a total “not going to do it.” It’s more like self-publishing can be so many different things these days. That’s all I’m saying.

Number five, I’m not putting too much faith or excess attention to smart contracts, Bitcoin NFTs, which is not to say I’m ignoring them. I just have a lot of questions about them enough for me to think twice about them. Okay. It’s like, I just can’t take a whole courses or whole, you know, I’m never going to be a computer scientist is what it comes down to, so I’m watching cautiously, very cautiously.

Six, quit, uh, what does that say? Oh, I’m not starting a TikTok account. I might consider using Discord more, possibly Twitch? We’ll see. Anyway, that’s it. This is my list that I made after they said make a list of things you don’t wanna do anymore. I would say I don’t wanna do social media anymore, but well, here I am. What can I say? Talk to you later.

Oh. And, by the way, way to go guys! Way to go! Far out, man. 🙂
