A Series of Effective Time Management Tips

Today I’m running the first in a series of posts about effective time management for writers. Even though I focus on mindful writing on this blog, I think these tips can be helpful to other busy people who want to find time for side pursuits and hobbies in their schedules.

Check out the video or read the text below.

Hi! Today I’m not doing a book review. I’d like to do some more writing tips for anybody who aspires to write novels or or any other kind of book for that matter. The thing about writing is a lot of people think it’s just this wonderful, fun thing to do, and it is. It’s wonderful and, for me, it’s most fun when it’s finished, to be honest. I’m like Dorothy Parker. I don’t like to write, I like to have written.

But the thing is that you have to set aside the time to write. So what I’m going to talk about today is how do you do this? What you have to do I think—what’s worked for me is to literally sit down with my monthly calendar and pencil in the time that I write. Set aside time to write on specific days. even if it’s only twice a week or once a week depending on what your schedule is like. Pencil in that time and just say, “This is my sacrosanct writing time. Nobody is going to schedule anything that will distract me from writing during this time.” And that is a good start. Just having the time to sit down and do the writing.

So planning ahead like that will help you in every possible way, and that’s my first tip and what I’d like to do is continue to provide tips on a regular basis. So please tune in for more. Talk to you later! Thanks!
