On May 25, 2018, the GDPR went into effect. And I think we’ve all freaked the fuck out about this gotten our undies in the proverbial bunch gone slightly nuts figuring out how to comply with the thing.
The following video pretty much sums up my policy when it comes to my email list, anyway.
Dd you see that? Okay, this is my privacy policy or whatever you want to call it. My GDPR policy. When I give away free samples of my work or free books or whatever as an incentive for people to sign up for my mailing list, all I ask is their name, email, I think their IP address gets in there, the device that they downloaded the book to and … is there something else?
The date that they did it, the confirmation that they agreed to this, because I do a double opt-in. I take every precaution I can to make sure that you know that you’re signing up for an email list and that this is done with your consent.
I will not sell your data. I will not sell it to marketers. I will not give it away, and if you want me to forget you, I will happily forget you. Feel free to unsubscribe from my mailing list at any time if it’s not interesting to you. If there’s something that does interest you that you feel like I’m not doing, feel free to email me. My email is Debbi[at]DebbiMack[dot]com.
Anyway, having said that, hopefully this will suffice … maybe I’ll even post this under my privacy policy. I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m gonna do with this video, other than put it up and say, “Well, EU, I’m doing the best I can. I really, really am.”
So I don’t want to bother anybody. I don’t want to pester people. I don’t want to hold onto your data, if you’d rather be forgotten. I will gladly forget you, but I don’t want to forget you if you don’t want to be forgotten, and I will happily stay in touch with you if that’s what you want, too. To keep you apprised of what I’m doing as a writer, as an aspiring possibly filmmaker. I don’t know. We’ll see where it all goes.
I never know what I’m doing. Like right now! 🙂 GDPR. I said it. I wrote it. And, hopefully, the EU will not come bashing my door down. I don’t think so.
Anyway, hi Europe! I love you. You’re cool. You’re all right. All right!
Having said that, I’m just glad that you’re here listening. Thank you for listening, for subscribing, for everything. And, as always, as Douglas Adams would say, don’t panic. Talk to you later!
