Hi. Well, let’s talk a little bit more about screenwriting since that’s on my mind a lot lately, since I’ve been getting involved in doing a lot of it lately. Screenwriting is an interesting field in many ways. One of the interesting things about it is that if you ever wanted for email communication, your problems are solved!
After you become a screenwriter and start entering contests and so forth, people start mysteriously popping up on your radar. I don’t know what it is, how it is, but somehow they appear in your inbox or somebody will make a recommendation on a list. I think that’s how a lot of this starts, and you check out one person and then suddenly you’re getting all these emails and they all purport to tell you how to manage your career as a screenwriter, or they didn’t tell you how to do it. They tell you that there’s several hundred different stories out there about how people get started in screenwriting and in entertainment in general.
So, okay, I mean, this is a message I keep hearing over and over and over, and after a time, it starts to worm into your brain a little bit and well, anyway, having said that, just be on the lookout for a lot of that. When you get into screenwriting, you have to learn to ignore a lot of things, frankly.
You have to learn to ignore the subtle ways in which people use language that will make you feel like you can’t do “it,” whatever “it” is. So that’s something to be aware of on the internet all the time. I don’t have to tell you that, do I? I mean, you’ve seen those claims out there that are ridiculous, but there’s nothing ridiculous about the idea of your being able to become a published author if you want to, or even a producer, a film producer if you wanted to.
But you have to take the steps necessary to get to that point, and that’s the point I’m making here. When you sit down and think about what it takes to get from where you are now to where you want to be, and you think about the possibility, the ways you can make that happen, then it will happen. But it won’t happen until you start thinking about what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and is it of enough interest to you to keep doing it no matter what?
That’s what it comes down to. That’s pretty much my message for the day, and I hope you all have a good day wherever you are, and I’ll be seeing you.

PS: Expect a lot of this!

Yeah, a whole LOT of that! 🙂
