The interesting thing about starting from scratch, because basically you were making a good living from fiction writing to making bupkus, is that it actually frees you of expectations.
If nothing else, it has taught me a thing or two about what not to spend time and money on.
So, I’ve set up a challenge for myself this coming year. I intend to start with a monthly budget and go from there.
The first step in this process is to identify my fixed and required expenditures.
My doing so has revealed the following:
Monthly budget
Item Cost
Phone $35
Email service 10
Domains 1
Hosting 8
Grand Total $54
As you can see, starting an online business doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. The real trick, of course, is to make enough money to cover these expenses plus any additional (optional or recommended) ones, to the point where you end up ahead (i.e., making a profit).
So … as an author and screenwriter, I’ve been working on ways to better manage my money. My next step will be to identify the most essential of my optional costs. As for the rest … we’ll see.
What are you doing to better control your spending? How about time management and using technology better? I hope to explore these issues more on my YouTube channel. Click here to subscribe!
