Why Life is Like Baseball

Hi, Debbi Mack here and I’m going to go over five reasons why life is like baseball.

One. I’m wearing my baseball shirt today. So it seems appropriate. Doesn’t it? One reason why life is like baseball is that more often than not, you’re going to fail rather than succeed. Success tends to come in small quantities.

Two. Life is also like baseball, because success isn’t about making a home run every time. It’s about doing your job. It’s about getting the thing that needs to be done done. Sometimes in baseball, you have to bunt rather than get a home run, or make a base hit or, you know, get that walk or whatever to get somebody home. And it’s about the small things.

Three. Life is also like baseball because it’s a team effort in a way. It’s kind of a corny line, but it takes a village, right? I mean, you can’t do everything all by yourself. You need friends, you need people who will help you out, mentors, stuff like that. Think of life as a great big project and your life can be happy if you work with others well.

Four. Baseball has been called a game of inches. I think people assume that when a player gets just the right base hit, located in just the right place, that’s a lucky thing, but actually it’s a result of skill. So the more skilled you are and the more you focus on that particular skill, the better off you will be.

Five. But the number one reason why life is like baseball is that to succeed, you have to show up.
