The biggest ways I failed as an author trying to make a living from my writing was to depend solely on algorithms and price points to succeed. Not that these things aren’t important, but they have to be balanced with other ways of reaching one’s readership and connecting with them.
What is the single most important thing you can do to establish your presence online? The answer is to create your own blog.
The reason I say that is that your blog is where you can best express who you are and what you do. No amount of Facebook likes, retweets, Twitter followers, or Instagram photos and likes thereon will do the job of a well-structured blog.
Frankly, creating a blog isn’t as complex as one might suppose. It doesn’t take a technical genius to do it. I’m living proof of that.
